From The Principal
Multicultural public speaking competition

Congratulations to our Stage 2 and 3 students who represented Yates at the Multicultural Public Speaking district final on Monday, 16th June.
Zak, Thomas, Ethan and Luseane delivered outstanding prepared and impromptu speeches to a large audience at Ngarala Public School, Epping.
We are so proud of our outstanding speakers and wish them all the best in their future public speaking endeavours.
Sydney West cross country carnival
Congratulations to Zak and Ian who competed at the Sydney West Cross Country championships last Thursday, 26th June. They ran a great race on a very tough and hilly course at Horsley Park. We're so proud of their achievements - well done, boys!
Semester 1 reports
With Semester 1 reports sent home yesterday in hard copy, please take this opportunity to read the report with your child, celebrate their achievements and discuss their next steps in learning. As a staff, we are very proud of the students' academic success in 2025.

Stage 2 and Stage 3 camp
Permission notes for both camps have been sent via School Bytes, along with a hard-copy information notes for students and families. Please log into your app, make a deposit payment by the required date and give permission for your child to attend.
With the rising cost of living over the few last years, Yates is helping to support families by providing a camp subsidy for every student:
- $50 subsidy for Stage 2 camp - $230 per student (originally $280)
- $100 subsidy for Stage 3 camp - $475 per student (originally $575)
Genready - Stage 2 and 3
Over the last few weeks, students in Stage 2 and 3 have engaged with teachers from 'Genready' - an organisation focused on educating students on topics such as: communication skills, navigating friendships, healthy relationships and preparing to be teen ready. These sessions have been well received by the students and have provided our them with the skills to navigate challenges they may face with social interactions and using appropriate terminology.
In response to some concerning incidents this term with online behaviour outside of school hours, Stage 3 students also learned about cyber safety and the lasting impact of digital footprint when using with social media. This message has been further reinforced by the teachers, as we prepare the Year 6 students for high school and navigating the teenage years.
Moving Bodies Dance - Term 3
During Term 3, all students will participate in weekly dance lessons by the Moving Bodies fitness company.
We kindly ask parents for payment of dance lessons, at a subsidised rate of $20. A note has been sent via School Bytes for this activity.
Dance will start in Week 2 and continue every Monday and Thursday. The timetable will be the same as Term 2 athletics skills. Students are asked to wear sports uniform for this activity.

Unfortunately, Mrs Talbot will be taking leave from Yates Avenue PS for Term 3 and 4.
From Term 3, Miss Amy Collishaw will be teaching Year 1 on Monday and Tuesday. Mrs McCabe will continue to share the teaching duties on Tuesday, as well as her regular days on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The class name will change to 1CM for the remainder of the year.
Miss Collishaw joins the Yates team from Kent Rd Public School, where she has been teaching Year 1 over the last 2 years.
Miss Collishaw will be working closely with Mrs McCabe and the K-2 team, ensuring a smooth transition of learning programs and knowledge of student progress, and minimal disruption to the Year 1 class routine.
End of term
As we reach the end of Term 2, I would like to thank the community for their ongoing support of the school: in the uniform shop, at P and C meetings, in the canteen on Wednesdays and during events such as the school, zone and Sydney West cross country carnivals, and multicultural public speaking competitions. We are looking forward to more parent involvement next term with fundraising and community events.
Start of Term 3
I will be on a family holiday to Canada for the first 4 weeks of Term 3, returning on Monday, 18th August. Ms Richards will be relieving principal in my absence and Mrs Miller will be teaching 6MR Monday-Friday.
There will be a school development day on Monday, 21st July for teachers only.
All students will return on Tuesday, 22nd July
Have a great few weeks :)
