Stage 3 Camp - Canberra & the Snowy Mountains
Year 5 and 6 students had a memorable time on their tour of Canberra & the Snowy Mountains in Week 5. We visited a variety of sights in Canberra and Cooma, with educational visits focused on Australia’s history, culture, heritage, and democracy. A highlight of the trip was a day of snow play at Perisher Valley. With a spectacular snow fall this winter, the students had a fun time playing in the snow, throwing snow balls and making snow men!
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government contributed funding of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PaCER) program towards those costs. The rebate was paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Father's Day breakfast
The annual Father’s Day breakfast is Friday, 5th September from 8.00-8.50am on the hall verandah. We invite all our dads, grandads or uncles to the breakfast to share some special time with their children. Men in the Yates community are highly valued and play an important role in the lives of our students. We hope you have a great Father's Day this Sunday!
School Administrative & Support Staff (SASS) - Recognition Week
This week, we acknowledge the important work the SAS staff undertake in our school. The work performed by them is vital to the effective functioning of our school and we are fortunate to have a highly skilled, dedicated and supportive team. Mrs Copping, Miss Rose, Mrs Frankenberg, Mrs Stagnitta, Mrs Dyball, Mrs Aghdam, Mrs Ragell, Mrs Lilli, Ms Eva, Ms Yvette, Ms Bimba and Mr Pete operate in various settings around the school.
SASS Recognition Week is an opportunity for us as a school and community to show our appreciation of the work this great team undertakes every day. During the week, we will treat them to lunch and treats in recognition of their contributions to our school and community.
Year 3-6 student survey data
During Term 2, students in Years 3-6 completed an anonymous survey where they responded to questions on the following themes: classroom management, motivation, teacher feedback, sense of belonging, engagement, bullying, discrimination and explicit teaching. Feedback from the students was open and honest, and provided us with valuable information about how the children perceive the school and learning environment - see below:

NAPLAN results
NAPLAN results were sent home recently and, for the third year, student results have been measured against 4 levels of proficiency at the time of testing:
Exceeding - the student's result exceeded expectations
Strong - the student's result met challenging but reasonable expectations
Developing - the student's result indicated they are working towards expectations
Needs Additional Support (NAS) - the student's result indicated they did not achieve the learning outcomes
The table below shows the percentage of Year 3 & 5 students (combined) who achieved in Exceeding and Strong, compared to the NSW state average.
