School Athletics Carnival
The first week back for Term 3 started with a bang! With perfect sunny weather on the Friday for the Athletics carnival. The carnival is always a great community day with lots of extended families in attendance. The students should be congratulated on their responsible and respectful behaviour in encouraging each other to do their best in the events.
A massive thank you to the carnival planning team, for your long hours and commitment in making the day such a great event for the students. I would also like to thank Sarah Mane and the P&C for serving great snacks, sandwiches and cold drinks. We also appreciate the parents and carers who volunteered to assist with timing, field recording and packing up.
NAIDOC
The 2025 NAIDOC theme was "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy," focusing on the bright future and strength of the upcoming young leaders. In Week 1, Yates Avenue was lucky enough to have Toby, Felesha and Liam share some of their stories during a Yarning Circle. It was a great learning opportunity for all students to listen, reflect and be part of an important afternoon of sharing.
100 days of Kindergarten

Last Wednesday, Ms Dennis and the amazing KD celebrated 100 days of learning. The students all looked fabulous and enjoyed creating such fun memories at school!
Secretary's Award
Last week, Yates Avenue was part of a collaboration of schools to receive a Secretary's award for Outstanding School Achievement at the annual Public Education Awards. Yates' staff have been part of the EaST Mathematics project, helping to create explicit maths plans and resources. We are very proud of this contribution to the EaST maths project, which is now being used and implemented in over 250 primary schools.
Our School Garden
A big thank you to Ms Bowring for organsing a donation from Bunnings to help kick start our veggie patch again. The school received some plants and gardening equipment for students to use in the planting and maintaining of veggies. Thank you to Ms McCabe as well who is organising a plan for more community engagement with the garden.
